WHAT IS SPECIAL EDUCATION ?
Special education is basically personalised teaching given to specially-abled children. It aims at providing an encouragement and support to the special need child to take part in school, family and other social set-ups, develop their communication and pick-up skills necessary to live a independent life.
WHAT DOES AN SPECIAL NEED TEACHER DO ?
Special educators work for students with hearing, vision, behavioural, physical or intellectual disabilities, or special needs in learning or communication. They help them in adopting to basic literacy, independent living skills and communication skills. The work of special education teacher can be emotionally demanding and physically draining.

HOW TO BECOME AN SPECIAL NEED TEACHER ?
- A person with passion to teach special need kids can do by either doing a diploma course or a bachelor of special education
- To pursue diploma course 10+2 is the minimum requirement
- For bachelor course a candidate must already have bachelor degree from a recognised university.
- There are also Masters course in special education for which requirement is bachelor degree in special education.
- There are aslo post-graduate diplomas courses in specific areas: autism, , visually impaired, intellectual disability, learning difficulties, etc.
- The candidates are required to undergo an NCTE recognised six-month special programme.
